Morning on the Flats 16 x 30 Available at M Gallery of Fine Art
All up and down the west coast of Florida, there are bays, inlets, and saltwater flats- the skinny (shallow) water where the best fishing can be found. For years, my dad and my husband Steve would meet in Cedar Key or Homosassa in the hours before dawn to head out into the Gulf to fish. My dad, born and raised in Florida, had been a bass fisherman all his life, and had never spent much time on open saltwater (unless you count that little trip from England to Normandy in 1944). It was a new challenge and one he readily embraced in that last decade of his life. So, I was thinking of them, out there on the flats at dawn, when I painted this.
The color and serenity in this painting is wonderful. Deborah, you are truely a master at orchestrating mood and harmoney. With a view like this, the fishing must be grand.
I don't know how I happened upon your blog, but what a delight to see the Florida scenes. I too was born and raised in Florida. Your paintings and drawings are beautiful.
Beautiful painting Deborah and very serene. I like the size of the painting too, it must have plenty of impact. Lovely colours used too. It is so interesting to read about the paintings you are creating for your February exhibition. All very peaceful and beautiful by the way. I admire the work of Linda Blondheim I believe she is Florida based she manages to paint swamp trees and light so well. I am not familar with the commerical view of Florida but I do know that Scotland also has it's tourist industry which can produce some very unartistic views of our scenery here!
Wow.....Beautiful! It has such a deep ahhhhhhhh feeling. I am certain your Dad would love it.
