Spring Stream

Spring Stream
18 x 24

This is the completed painting (I think) which includes the details I posted last time. I was after that soft, ephemeral quality of spring. There is a fragility and hopefulness which is all the more poignant because it is so fleeting. This particular scene is about 5 miles from my studio and it is is somewhat more literal than most of my work. One of those few times when Nature seemed to compose things perfectly without much help or interference. I did paint it from memory and a small 5 x 7 oil completed a year or two ago which was also done from memory.

Hi Deborah, I read with great interest about your research and experiments with the brushes and the gel. The finished painting does look very different to your other work, though it could be you have taken a better photo. The detail through out is very nice and the colours, composition and mood are perfect for Spring time. My only thought is that the sky holes seem very white through the trees it is possible that the camera could have caught more white than there actually is. Lisa who has the seashore blog recently took a photo of light on the water, in spite of her glazing over it with warm coloured glazes the camera didn't pick this up but showed the water to be completely white! I really like the direction you are going in with your new work Deborah.

This is wonderfully soft a serene...and amazing that you can paint so well from memory. The tones are spot on, as is the composition. I'd love to see a photo of he original location for comparison.

Beautiful softness and color, Deborah - this will be a great example for your "Painting Water" class with the reflections and composition here.
