This is one of those paintings that just refuses to be photographed properly. Actually, a lot of my paintings are that way, because of the glazes I suppose. I tried this one in all my usual spots and nothing seemed to work, so finally I just gave up and clicked. The foreground is too red and the greens in the trees (which balance the color harmony) can't be seen. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow and if I hold my mouth just right........

In other studio news, while I was out having my near miss last week, Steve was working on the studio to surprise me when I got home. We still have a lot left to do, but the storage area is finished and completely filled.

And the study area in the studio (which Steve refers to as the employee lounge) got a coat of paint and the bookshelves installed (they still need to be stained).

that studio space is going to be terrific! lucky you. it is true that glazed paintings are quite a bit harder to photograph, as you somehow dont get the true depth shown in the painting showing through in the photo...however I think your painting is lovely; despite that you're unhappy with the quality of the photo.

Photographing artwork is always frustrating. No matter how good the photo, it is just an echo--not the experience of the art in person. It can't have the "presence" that the art has, something virtually impossible to translate without being physically in front of the work.

So glad you were not seriously injured in that scary accident.

Thanks Sally- I am looking forward to having the studio done!

Its true, Don. I think one of the issues also is size-the image reduces everything to the same size while in reality a large piece has an imposing presence or a small one may have a gem like quality. Thanks for visiting!

Nice to see the progress in your studio! I'm envious of that great closet - feel like I need something like that for all my frames and panels that are all over the floors!

Oh, and the painting looks beautiful, even if the photo is only an echo of what it looks like in real life =)
