Evening Study
8 x 10

After a couple of weeks of really hot weather and almost a month without rain, we finally got two days of rain and temperatures dropped about 10 degrees. As the skies cleared at the end of the second day, the evening sky was the most beautiful shade of violet.

This is gorgeous. I love the unexpected violet sky.

These colours work so well Deborah. You have brought them together beautifully. In the foliage it looks like you use quite a lot of burnt sienna. I find that a very difficult colour to control but you are able to keep it in its place! The whole painting is so atmospheric.

Thank you Nancy!

Hi Sheila. Actually the foreground and the trees are glazed with Gamblin transparent earth with a little olive green or sap green mixed in. I do use burnt sienna but mostly just to knock back my greens. Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for that information Deborah. That is really interesting. Colour is the biggest challenge for me.
