Gratification-Delayed

Winter Greys
6 x 6
Private Collection

Yesterday I took a drive of about 60 miles round trip over to the vet's to pick up medicine for Sophie (our oldest Corgi). Its a trip I take about once a month and I always look forward to it. Although the landscape along the way is very similar to where we live, it does have more of the tall pines this area of Texas is known for (more about that later). Yesterday, the fog was thick and I was fascinated by the variety of greys- from the violets and blues in the distance to almost maroon/wine colored greys in the near trees. By the time I got home, I had an entire painting composed and painted in my head.

I have never been a patient person. I tend to want what I want, when I want it. Instant gratification- a birthright. As my husband says of me in former days, before we came to the Bubble, "you were in a hurry". So it is probably a great cosmic gotcha that I have adopted a mode of painting that requires me to paint, wait, paint, wait, paint, and wait some more. Which is why I am posting a painting today done this time last year and not the one I started yesterday.

I love this one. And I'm with you on the wanting what I want when I want it syndrome. Your current work is A Good Practice, indeed. Hope that your Corgi is well.

This is so serene. I could just sit and look, and look and look...

Your paintings are certainly worth waiting for!

Deborah, I want the instant gratification of seeing the painting you composed and painted in your head. But I'll just have to wait.

Hi Suzanne. It is a good life lesson - life imitates art or vice versa? Sadly, our Sophie is declining. She went blind earlier this year and has a heart condition. But she still loves her treats and a scratch on the head!

Thank you Tina for your comments. I appreciate it.

Thanks Katherine and thanks for visiting!

Still waiting for those glazes to dry, Janelle!

Deborah, Beautiful painting posted today.
An interesting choice of medium where you have to wait, paint, wait…definitely not instant gratification.
I have often thought that the medium of watercolour (where there is much waiting time in between washes, especially when creating atmosphere or fog in glazing) ......that it is such a shame there is so little painting time involved…. and I love the physical act of painting (lol)

Terrific colour and atmosphere Deborah.

Hi Maggie. Thank you! I think the only way to deal with it, is to have a number of thing going all at once. That's the way Turner did, after all!

Thank you Sheila and Merry Christmas!

Lovely work yet again. Used to think I was alone in terms of my impatience. It kind of made me feel good knowing you had the same trait too.........feels good knowing you're not alone.

Don't think I can work on a work for such a long time though.
