Autumn Light

Autumn Light
24 x 30
Available at Galerie Kornye, Dallas

Every year this time, I have to adjust to the changing light. The thing I notice most is that the light is "harder" - a result of less moisture (humidity) in the air. We've had so much rain this fall, this hasn't really been noticeable until this week. Soon, the moisture returns in the form of lovely winter fog. But, for now, the clarity of the light is striking.

Great painting. I've been playing with a fall painting. I started it a week ago. I've been struggling with the light and the sky. I think you are right about the "hardness" of the light. The lack of humidity. My edges have looked a bit too harsh. It is a WIP I hope to post soon. It is a similar backlit landscape. I've enjoyed visiting your blog.

Thank you Neetzy. It is a challenging time of year to paint, but worth the effort!

Thanks Suzanne!

Beautiful painting and stunning sky, Deborah. You've captured the glow and weightlessness of the sky and clouds so wonderfully.

By the way, I use the 60-pastel plein air set from Terry Ludwig that you choose the colors for - what a beautiful selection of pastels!

Thank you Brian. And I'm glad you are enjoying the Ludwig set. I visited your blog and really enjoyed seeing your pastels. I was also very interested in your info on handmade papers. I'm doing some charcoal drawings and I'd like to try some of them!
