Drawing & Painting Trees

Summer-Rick's Pool
Charcoal on grey toned paper

Although I am working on six paintings in the studio for an upcoming show at Blackheath Gallery in London, I am also taking time to do some drawing. This is always a good way for me to unwind when I come off an intense period in the studio, or in this case, at the show in Telluride. Vine charcoal and toned paper is a favorite drawing medium.

I still have a few spots left in one of my most popular online classes- Drawing & Painting Trees, which starts next month. You can click here for information and registration. Wondering if an online class might be right for you? Be sure to check out student comments here.

Deborah, love the softness of this and the way the water meanders back. Would love to take more oil classes with you, but it will have to wait for a while, as I have no funds at the moment…. I often look at the few (very few) successful oil paintings I painted after attending one of your classes, and wonder how I got form A to Z (lol)!!!

Hi Maggie. I think you are being too hard on yourself. I think you did really well considering you had never painted in oils before!

What a great drawing! You've used the charcoal to all of its advantages in creating diffuse shape areas in the tree foliage, hard dark lines in the branches and trunks, soft hits of value in the background. All of it together makes for a great drawing. Love it!

Hi Sherri. I looked for an email address for you but one is not listed on your Blogger profile. I will teach the Trees class again in the spring. I do have one spot left in Field Sketching which will include a lot of drawing. I can put you on my email list to be notified of upcoming classes and workshops.

Please add me for your spring course. I would rather proceed from that point. Where can I find an email address for you so I can send you my email address?
