Afterglow

Afterglow - oil on canvas 24 x 30
Available at Hildt Galleries, Chicago

Here is the second painting of the "pair". I had planned to post them side by side but Blogger doesn't seem to want to let me do that. But, hopefully, they do read as complements to one another, as intended.

I missed these somehow - I like them! You did a good job making them complement each other, while making each a unique individual painting.

What did you end up doing for panels? I'm itching to work big and need to start to prepare some bigger panels...

Oh - you can ignore my question about panels on the last comment - I just saw that you did these on canvas!!

Hi Stacey. It funny you should ask about the panels- I was just thinking yesterday about doing a follow up post on that. Actually, I made two 24 x 30 masonite panels for these two pieces and even got the paintings laid in before deciding I didn't like the surface and switching to canvas. I bought a new batch of gesso and it was formulated very differently from the first batch I got- very hard and tough to sand. So, I've ordered some stuff to make my own and I'll see how that goes. These canvas panels were alkyd primed and a much smoother linen (mounted on gator board) than I usually use and worked well with glazes so this might be the choice for bigger pieces- very lightweight. I'm doing a 30 x40 and a 30 x 36 on them now.
