Summer Woods
7 3/4 x 8 1/4
Vine Charcoal on Canson paper

This week it was hot in Texas with big well developed cumulus clouds forming in the afternoons. When we moved here a few years ago, I really missed those clouds. We seemed to just get high cirrus clouds. But, this summer we've had the big boys! Yesterday I saw some really large ones, all stacked up to the north as I was walking back from the studio to the house in late afternoon. Soon after, a ferocious storm blew in and our power was knocked out for a few hours. This morning I noticed one of the huge old white oaks across the road had come down.

Are you still loosening up with the sketches Deborah and getting ready to start painting again? A lovely sketch and I can feel the atmosphere of a storm over head.

Hi Caroline! Actually, I am back at work on four larger paintings, but still enjoying drawing too.

Wonderful drawing.
The medium and paper really lends it's self
to the mood of mystery and weather.

Sorry about the white oak. Sad to lose
such an old tree.

Thank you Doug. It is a shame- I always think about what they have stood witness to over their long lives. The one that came down was probably over 100 years old.

Very pleasing composition and marks. I noticed a Facebook page by Canson the other day, where they post artist's works on their paper - here is a good candidate.

Beautiful intimate forest drawing, Deborah, with a lovely sense of depth and shadow. Hope you are weathering the storms OK there, and maybe getting in some sketches of those clouds while they last.
